History excites me. It shows that insurmountable problems and huge works fade away in the face of better ideas.  Creative destruction is not as common as I had initially thought.  Usually, a solution to the problem occurs to tinkerers decades before the solution falls into place.  Often, those solutions become problems of their own in the coming decades.

I did this graphic to understand when, exactly, did things happen.  This only goes to 1900 or so.  I’ll post a part 2 next week.
